Red Drum Targeted in October
Jennette’s Pier
spacer
Fall fishing consumes sportsmen along the Outer Banks in October. At sunrise, the piers and beaches come alive with fishermen looking to catch hard-fighting red drum.

Also known as channel bass, red drum are North Carolina’s state fish and are protected. A replica of the State and World Record 94-pound, 2-ounce red drum, caught by David Deuel on Hatteras Island in 1984, is on display in the pier’s second-story staircase. Several of these beautiful fish have already been landed and released from Jennette’s, sparking a great start to a successful season. Check out catches on the Daily Fishing Report and the pier’s Facebook page.

Learn and share techniques, tips and tricks for landing your catch with Family Fishing classes Thursdays and Fridays at 9 a.m. Advanced classes for landing the big one are also available.

Sightseers are invited to saunter along the 1,000-foot-long pier from 6 a.m. to midnight all fall. The full hunter’s moon rises at dusk over the ocean on Friday, Oct. 18, a perfect time for a leisurely moon lover’s stroll.
