Wyland Foundation Clean Water Mobile Learning Center to visit the Aquarium
The North Carolina Aquarium on Roanoke Island is bringing the Wyland Foundation Clean Water Mobile Learning Center to the Aquarium on Monday, September 1, 2008, Labor Day. The mobile learning center contains a 30 seat theater, a running river, rain, all located inside a 1,000-square foot exhibit on wheels that will change the way your community looks at water forever.
As visitors enter the mobile learning center they will be recruited as Clean Water Challenge Agents. A film with special effects begins their training and they are tasked to solve mysterious disturbances in the health of our nation’s water habitats, with exhibits focusing on lake regions, river management estuaries, and ocean runoff.
Fully interactive and a one of a kind experience, each activity encourages visitors to engage, play, experiment, and learn. The Wyland Foundation Mobile Learning Center makes education fun and gives every visitor the opportunity to learn about conserving and valuing our precious water resources.
In an article printed in the Washington Post, November 8, 2007 it was stated, “Wyland teaches kids how the things people do miles away from and ocean or bay eventually can affect the quality of water there.”
The Wyland Foundation Mobile Learning Center will be at the North Carolina Aquarium on Roanoke Island from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Labor Day,Monday, September 1, 2008. Located in the Aquarium visitor parking area, this experience will be free to visitors. If you plan on visiting the Aquarium exhibits after visiting the mobile learning center, all admission fees will apply. For more information call 252-473-3494.
NC Aquarium on Roanoke Island Receives a Grant from NOAA
The North Carolina Aquarium on Roanoke Island has received funding from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) for an exciting new exhibit. This exhibit will feature Science on a Sphere, a 5 foot spherical Earth, which will focus on storms, oceans and how humans impact the planet.
The grant will fund the new sphere, exhibit development, teacher curriculum, and professional development opportunities. Science on a Sphere: Bringing the Oceans to You, will also introduce Aquarium visitors to a new way of seeing the oceans. They will be able to dive deep to the ocean floor, see the planet at night, watch hurricanes as they develop and track their paths, and so much more. Science on a Sphere, a dynamic Earth, will soon be at the Aquarium! Join us in the spring of 2009 for this amazing new exhibit.
