Current Vacancies
The Education Department is now accepting State Application Form PD-107 for the following seasonal part-time Educator position at the North Carolina Aquarium at Pine Knoll Shores. This position does not include state benefits. The application deadline for this position is Aug. 4, 2008.
Educator
The Educator position is responsible for presenting all educational programs to the public, and to school groups and special-interest groups. This position will present live animal programs, prepare printed materials, respond to visitor questions, utilize electronic communication systems, and work with full-time Educators on creating and implementing special-event programs.
Requirements:
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to create and present public programs.
- Ability to speak before and respond to questions from large audiences.
- Strong knowledge of North Carolina’s coastal species and resources.
- Availability for evening, weekend and holiday work.
- Prior animal handling experience preferred.

The Aquarium requires all applicants to submit a signed State Application Form PD-107, which can be downloaded here or obtained from any state agency. Please specify which position you are applying for on the application. If you are applying for multiple vacancies, please list each position for which you wish to be considered in the appropriate spot on your application. All positions require evening, weekend and holiday work.
Internships
The Aquarium offers a limited number of internships for college students each summer in the Husbandry and Education departments. The positions pay hourly wages, and interns typically work 40 hours per week for 12 to 14 weeks. The deadline to apply for summer internships is in mid-March.
Husbandry interns help collect, feed and care for specimens as well as clean and maintain exhibits and equipment. Education interns present daily environmental education programs for the public, plan and implement special events, work on the floor at touch pools and discovery carts, and may assist with outdoor or summer camp activities. |

Applicants must submit a cover letter and a State Application PD-107. The application also is available from any state agency. Applicants should indicate a preference for Husbandry or Education.
