For high school students ages 15-17 the aquarium offers a junior volunteer program. Teens genuinely interested in marine biology and aquatic science are encouraged to apply. Junior volunteers provide valuable assistance to aquarium staff and contribute significantly to a variety of visitor experiences including: Touch tank interactions, sea turtle education, classroom experiments and aquatic crafts. Applicants selected to participate in this program work with aquarium staff and experienced volunteers in the education department. This experience includes opportunities to learn about the aquarium and explore areas of personal interest.
Junior volunteers commit a minimum of six months, or 60 hours, to qualify for the program. This includes 8-10 hours each month either training or volunteering. Junior volunteers gain opportunities and earn responsibilities as they complete specific training and undergo professional evaluation. Participation in this program provides experience that may aid teens with future education and employment opportunities in marine biology and aquatic science.
Junior volunteers are selected through a competitive application and interview process. Please complete and submit the junior volunteer application.
